Where to Stay in Maldives

We traveled to Maldives in May 2018 for our honeymoon and had the best time staying at Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa

WHERE:

Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa

South Ari Atoll

WHY:

This resort was essentially situated on a private island – there were no other resorts or any commercial or residential properties on the island. This island is 900 meters long by 250 meters wide, about 55 acres and surrounded by a spectacular house reef a short swim away from the expansive sandy beach.

● All inclusive – every meal and drink (including well made cocktails) were included

● Private overwater bungalows – yes, like the ones you see on Instagram and TV – ours came with a deck with lounge chairs and a ladder where you could jump off from your deck right into the crystal clear water. If you don’t want an overwater bungalow they also have garden and beach villas.

● Beautiful weather and ocean – the weather in May was hot and breezy with mild occasional rain storms. The ocean was crystal clear and warm and full of tons of fish and sea creatures.

● Various dining options: the resorts has 3 main restaurants – 2 are a la carte style and 1 is an all you can eat buffet. With our all inclusive package we mostly ate at the buffet restaurant which we loved because every night they rotated their menu from different cuisines and the food was delicious and always fresh.

● Lots of things to do – the resort offers a spa (that is located in an overwater bungalow so you can listen to the sound of the ocean while getting a massage…pure bliss) as well as many water/land activities including kayaking, snorkeling, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, scuba diving, paddle boarding and a full tennis court and soccer field. They also had frequent night entertainment including live music. The resort also has 2 swimming pools (including an infinity pool), a gym, photo studio, games room, library and more!

● The friendliest staff – every staff member was very friendly and accommodating

● The cost and overall value: with most resorts in the Maldives costing tens of thousands of dollars (and not being all inclusive) we were pleasantly surprised to find that the total cost for our 2-week all inclusive honeymoon was just about $8k with flights included.

It was a honeymoon paradise and would highly recommend!
